‘Come scorre la storia: il canale del Navile – storie d’acqua, di bottoni e vita’, an exhibit of 15 tables and 60 pictures to tell the changes of the Navile canal, in Bologna.
The exhibit has been set up inside the Parco del Navile Resodence. The pictures collected, thanks to the collaboration of various associations, concern, a ove all, the buildings just restaured and that one that are reaturing, deploied along the canal. An example of restaured building is the location of the exhibit, ‘Parco del Navile’, a house for old people with 8 apartments in a dependance in the nearest palace, dating around the early XX century. This canal, in bolognese dialect ‘Navélli’, actually invilved in paln of urban requalification, is the best example of an artificial hydro system that crosses Bologna. The canal born from the river Reno, on the lock of Casalecchio, built according to the Leonardo Da Vinci’s project, come into the heart of the town at the Garda, to become the ‘Navile’ at the Porta Lame, to arrive till Passo Segnim after almost 36 km. The 3 km of the canal that cross the inner city, instead, have been covered in the early XX century, together with the dismantling of the river port of Bologna, placed at the end of the center and considered one of the most important in Italy, during the Middle Age, that put on the town to the Po and the sea. An oddity: in 1866 was promoted a mineral water from Navile, taken form a well on the port of Bologna. The advertise told that the water had healthy properties, in spite of many cases of cholera in the town, some years before. The true bolognese mineral water arrived years after, restaurating the ancient roman aqueduct, still functioning today. The exhibit will be opened during the Summer.
